Well Done

There are few things in life I love more than a day on the lake...
or a day on the mountain! :)

We are returning to Maine this weekend for some time on the lake
My Uncle Phil's memorial service is on Saturday
and we will join friends and family to celebrate his life!

Although we are sad that he is no longer with us and he will be greatly missed
my family has no problem with celebrating a life!!
And by celebrate...I mean CELEBRATE!! :)

Twenty-three years ago we lost my twin brother, Scott Foster, at the age of 22.
He left our world for his eternal home on this very weekend all those years ago.
It is weird how what seems like forever ago can seem like yesterday.

We had a beautiful service for Scott in Indianapolis,
that will never be erased from our memories!

But the real celebration began when all our family and friends returned to Maine
with Scott!!
Maine was Scott's slice of heaven here on earth and his resting place;
as it is for all the Foster Family.
Scott would not have wanted us to mope around the lake mourning his death
...hence the celebration began!
We had a grand old time!
It was a beautiful weekend and we loved every minute we had together,
as Scott looked down on us from heaven saying...

Scott knew how to celebrate life better than anyone I know!

So on that note...let the celebrating begin, Uncle Phil.

I know you and Scott, and my Father (who died this past christmas),
my Aunt Mary (who we lost this past spring) and my Uncle Vernon
will be looking down and saying...

and I will bet on it, doing a little celebrating of their own! :)

Love that our God is so good!
and allows for a little...ok maybe a lot...of joy
even in the middle of our grief!

These pictures of my brother are pictures of pictures, so they are not real clear.
But you can see his passion for waterskiing and the lake here!

this is my very handsome Uncle,
Phil Wettengel

You will be forever missed and loved!

See you all at the lake!!

Speaking of the lake...

I scored these great sailboats at the junk/antique store the other day!
I just love them. They will find the perfect spot in our home.
And I will enjoy how they reflect my family's love for the lake. :)

Here are some others that I have acquired over the years...

Here is my favorite...

This one is not old...but I really liked it anyway.

Before signing off...

I wanted to share with you my pumpkin wreath that I was showing you on my last post.
Here is how it turned out...

I am painting more pumpkins white to finish off some of my fall decorating.

And I am pleased to inform you that I have been working on that wedding gift...
and I think I am going to actually like the way it turns out! sigh of relief! :)

I will post more about it later.

But my mind is already moving to my next project.
My daughters birthday is coming up so...

I think I will be making these into some cute birthday candles.

I am running out of time so I have to get busy!

Wait, one more thing...

I wanted to share with you this blog...

This woman of faith is a sweet, old friend of mine, who is an incredibly talented writer!
Check out her website! :)

She is precious!
and her first novel comes out soon...I will be first in line for it!

See you all when I get back from Maine,
Love to all! <3

Note to Fall

Note to Fall...Hurry Up!!

I am almost ready for you,
and I think you might be a little further away than
I would like.
Seeing as the temperatures are hovering right around 90 still.
Hoping for things to cool off a bit! :)

I have been working on a few more paintings.

I just love a plate full of paint, it makes me smile!
And I have had great company too!

Dungy...She is so sweet!

Here are the paintings I completed this week...
they are great for fall.

The next painting I plan to work on is this guy...

My youngest son has been asking me to paint a moose for his room. :)
We have this thing for moose...
not sure why?
It must be our affinity for Maine and Montana,
where you can frequently see these creatures hanging out!

I have also worked on some fall decor projects as well...

I painted these twig pumpkins white and sprinkled them with a little glitter.

They turned out pretty cute...
so I continued the theme and painted these little guys white...

Along with some little acorns. I like the way they turned out too.

Now I am working on attaching them to a wreath...

I have cut strips of bleached burlap for ribbon and I am using some spanish moss for filler.
I will let you know how it all turns out.

I picked up these cute milk glass goblets the other day from the junk store.

Not sure what I am going to do with them yet :)
This of course is of no surprise...I frequently pick up "stuff"
with no particular thing in mind.
This may explain why my craft room is busting at the seams! Haha :)

Haha...Kinda like this chalk paint I recently purchased.
It arrived yesterday! YAY :)

I have no idea what I am going to use it for. But I will find something.

Well I have some things to do today.
Namely, finish up a serving tray
that I have been working on for a wedding gift.
I have been putting it off for awhile now. UGH!
I think because I am nervous about how it is going to turn out.
I hope I end up liking it!!
But today, I am moving forward on this project until it is finished.

Often, I will start something, get half way through it and put it down because
I am unsure if I really like it or not.
Which might explain the number of unfinished projects in my house.
But one of my goals this year is not to let this happen...
because frequently if I continue with my project 9 times out of 10
it turns out alright! :)

Is anyone else out there like this?
Or is it just me...

Have a great day!!

There Is A Silver Lining In Her Boot

Megan has a stress fracture!! :(
very disappointing news

She has been running on it for at least a few weeks now.
Bless her heart...
I can't imagine how much that hurt!!
But my Megan is one tough girl and she loves to run,
so she will do just about anything so that she can.

Unfortunately, this pretty much wipes out her cross country season.
Needless to say we have been pretty bummed around here.

We have been working on
looking on the bright side,
trying to find the positive in the negative,

Good news...

We found some!!

She met this really great girl who teaches water aerobics,
which she has wanted to do for awhile now.
But she just hasn't had the time or the motivation.
Guess what, she found some! :)
Believe it or not she said it was a really hard workout.

She also has always wanted to do some sprint triathlons
but struggles with the swimming part of it.
So now she has time to work on that.

In addition, she has always wanted to start a blog about her running and fitness.
She will start that soon.  I will let you all know when she does.
She is passionate about her life as a runner so it should be a great blog!!

Also, she is very creative,
so she is going to take pictures of all her teammates during the season
and put together a video for the team.

And last but not least...
when she is all better
She will be able to run without the pain!!!
That is best of all!

The day we received the news about Megan's stress fracture
I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by some of the best girlfriends
for love and support! :)

My sweet friend Kim, had a beautiful lunch at her home.
They just finished putting a pool in their backyard.
We felt like we were at a resort for the afternoon.

The setting was perfect,

the food was delicious,

the mojitos were fabulous

and the company...

it was the BEST!!

I am blessed to have such great friends!
And I thank God for them everyday!! :)

one last thing...
I am excited to tell you that I purchased some
Annie Sloan chalk paint today!
I can't wait to try it out.

I bought the original white and the aubusson blue.

Will keep you posted!

Three Little Pumpkins

I don't know about you, but here in Indiana, I am loving this cooler weather.

I love throwing a sweatshirt on in the morning and
pealing it off by afternoon.
It is so refreshing!

The start of this cooler weather and looking forward to fall
renews my spirit. :)

I love living in a college town in the fall...the return of the students,
football games and tailgating, the change of color on campus...
it is all so fun and something I look forward to.
And I need to add, that Indiana University
is one of the most beautiful campuses in the whole country!
(especially in the fall)
And no I didn't go to IU...hehe

At home, I look forward to putting away the summer decor and pulling out my festive fall designs.
I look forward to building a fire and roasting marshmallows.
I love curling up on the couch with a bunch of blankets and my sweet family
or crawling up into a warm, cozy bed with a good book.
I love starting a new knitting project...especially some fun mittens.

Oh my, there is much to look forward to in the next few months.
I am about you?!

All that being said, here is one of my first projects in preparing for the fall...

In my previous blog post, I shared with you some that I had purchased years ago.
I had always wanted to make some of my own, so here is how they turned out
after drawing up a pattern and stitching them up.

My Three Little Pumpkins

I am pleased with the way they turned out and I am glad I chose to do them in all white.

I plan to do a bunch more. It was a pretty easy project!! :)

I have been really liking all things white lately.
I am even thinking about decorating my christmas tree
in all white this year.
I am going to look for some inspiration.

There is one more thing that I just love about the fall.
It might be the thing I love the most...

Go Colts!!
I am anxious to see how the season turns out.

And yup...
I finished those rocks :)

Well there is much to do...
so until next time,

Just a little ADD...

As an artist, mother, wife, friend or just a woman in her mid 40's

I have come to realize I have a little ADD...

OK :) haha - it is more than just a little and...

really I have known it for a while now.

It is just that some days it shows its ugly face more than others.

And today is just one of those days! :)

Good news is I have learned to laugh at myself for it. I mean what else is there to do?
I am certainly not going to medicate.
On second thought, I guess laughter is the best medicine so
maybe I am already medicated.

So here is what I have been doing today...which I am not sure amounts to much,
but hey, it's something. :/

I am working on some inspiration for my next paintings.
So I got my doodle book out and here is what I came up with...

- just a few sketches -

I have been lately fascinated by how time flies
and have wanted to paint some clock faces with wings.
I realize that my final destination will be an eternity...with my Maker and Savior!
and for that I am forever thankful!!
but often wish I could keep time from flying away from me.

I also have enjoyed painting and drawing angels.
Maybe because I feel like I am always in need of one!

I painted these angels a month or so ago and loved how they turned out!

We all need an angel or two...or three or four!! :)

moving on to my next thought of the day...
I have had these pumpkin pillows for a very long time now.

I thought it might be fun to make some of my own
so I am going to give it a whirl.

I picked out some fabrics...

I especially love the old white bed spread that I kept from years ago.

I think I will throw in some burlap too.
Especially since burlap is all the rage right now. :)

Now I just have to figure out how to cut the pattern...

- moving on -

I also worked on my painted rocks.
We can spell out just about anything...

Color me happy :)

And just in case you didn't already think I was ADD...

I let my mind move over and ponder a little jewelry making.

I used these magazines for a little inspiration...

but this will have to wait.
I have got to many kettles in the fire now.

So tomorrow I will get control of my ADD
and I will focus on finishing up my painted rocks first.

And... I have been a little behind on my house chores as well.

So... I do solemnly swear that I will focus on just my house work and my rocks tomorrow
before moving on to any other projects. :/

I will let you know how that works out...

A Fresh Start

My mother always said that the start of school was like her New Year's.
Now a mother of three, I totally get that.
For me, when the kids head back to school I am looking forward to a fresh, new start.
This is when I set new goals for myself. And this year is no different.

After a year of tough, personal setbacks for myself,
I am more than ready to begin a new.
I am glad to have a clean slate.
I had some health issues this past school year that completely wiped me out.
Not to mention the death of my father on Christmas Day.
And then following all of that, I lost both my Aunt and my Uncle.

That is what I am doing...taking a deep breath!
and finally coming up for air! :)
I am finally healthy and recovering from the loss of my loved ones.

I am excited to have some new goals...spiritual, physical and personal.
I am going for the GOLD this year!

I sent my 16 year old daughter back to school this past Thursday
and my boys (13 and 11) back yesterday.

(Ben is having a tough time with a smile here. Haha)

I am ready to start again.

Praise Jesus for a fresh start and praise Jesus that just by knowing Him
we get a clean slate everyday!

I think that is cause for celebration...

don't you think?!

this is my latest completed painting :)

I have lots of things in mind for the fall...

Here are some collections of things I picked up from our vacation in Maine.
I will be very busy and loving every minute...:)

can't wait to get started!

Lots of "junk"!
Can't believe my husband let me bring all this
home to Bloomington, IN from Maine.
And this isn't even all of it. :)

But he is good to me and understands my need to CREATE!!

Grabbing some more coffee and getting busy...

Have a blessed day!
