A Thankful Pumpkin

I am so THANKFUL for all of life's little blessings including

PUMPKINS!!

Dont' pumpkins just have a way of making you smile :) ?
They do for me!
And I am THANKFUL for them!!

I don't much care what size they are, or what color they are,
or weather or not they are real or the fake ones you can get at the dollar store,
or if they are decorated or if they are painted.
They just plain old make me happy!

Admittedly though I am kinda into the white ones!!

The other day I made my husband stop at a roadside farmers market
on our way to the COLTS game
to pick up a couple of these white pumpkins for my front door step.
Not exactly what he had in mind.

I have even spent some time PAINTING my pumpkins WHITE this season.
Both real ones and fake ones.

But PINK pumpkins are beginning to steal my heart away!
I have seen lots of  pumpkins painted PINK lately...
and not only do they make me smile but they just warm my heart! <3

So...
I gave it a whirl...

I have been really into those battery operated candles lately.
The real thing is a million times better, and I love candles...
but I never use them because either I don't have time or I get nervous.

THANKFUL for battery operated candles :)

So to give my daughter a cute little night light
I put one of those candles underneath the globe...

It turned out cute, I think.
Pretty much everything is cute in PINK.

THANKFUL for PINK!

So I was on a roll with the painted pumpkin thing and kept going...

I added a little scripture to live by...

Colossians 3:17
(just realized I spelled Colossians wrong...ugh)
oh well...that may or may not get fixed. Haha.
That will teach me to use my spell check! :)

THANKFUL for spell check!

In my latest blog I mentioned I would be working on my
fall table scape for my dining room.

I have been a busy bee...
I finally finished it up! YAY!!

So here it is...

the technique for the stands...

I used the items above to make my little tiers or "cake stands"

(the fun thing is that I could actually use them as cupcake stands later :))

I glued the pvc pipe to the slabs of wood and then glued the birch to the pvc pipe.
I used the gorilla glue for gluing the pvc to the wood,
but I used mod podge for gluing the birch on.
It was a little tricky and required some patience,
but eventually I got it.

I frequently get in a rush and don't allow proper drying time.
this really needed to dry over night.

There are those little battery operated candles again! :)
I mixed them in with some real ones.

I am pretty happy with the end result...
although I would love to make a table runner to go underneath it all.

Again, that may or may not get done. :)
Only time will tell. Haha

So one last note...

I was saying that I am taking time to be more THANKFUL for all the little things...

Like

PUMPKINS!

No matter their shape, size or color.

And I am even trying to be THANKFUL for all the little messes...
that my children leave behind for me to clean up.

They start an activity or project or whatever it is they are doing...
and they just leave it behind...
on the floor, on the kitchen counter, in the mudroom,
( what did we have those little built in cubbies made for? )
or in the driveway for me to run over!

Like pogo sticks! :)

My son has been trying to master the art of "pogo sticking" with no hands. :/
He has spent numerous hours on it now.
BUT...every morning it is in the middle of the driveway for me to run over.
BUT...all to soon it will all be gone and I will want it all back.

Soooo...

 I am THANKFUL for
pogo sticks and messes!! :)

May you realize the blessings of a mess today!

Much love -
Sara

Making A Mess

Consider yourself warned...
you might get swallowed up if you go in! haha
I have made a royal mess of things!!

Do you ever think that you are making more of a mess than progress?
I do...and that is exactly what I am doing
as I prepare my home for fall.
My mind works much faster than my hands :)
and I think every room now has evidence of my work.

I have been working diligently getting our home ready
for the fall months.
I just love this time of year and I am
anxious to get it all done!

I will be ready to sit back and relax, soak it all up...
sit by the fire, roast marshmallows, sip on some hot coffee or better still
some hot coco
and spend time with my man and kids
as we anticipate the colder months,
and look forward to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
I can't believe how fast it all goes...or maybe I can!

But for now I am going to embrace this perfect weather!! :)
the changing of guard, so to speak.
the colors of earth and sky and how they so perfectly compliment each other,
the sound  a carpet of color makes under my feet,
and the smell of the crisp autumn air.
PERFECT!! <3

Here is a sampling of the mess I am in. haha
Hoping that something really fun and beautiful comes from all this stuff.

Does your house ever look like this?
When I am in this mode every room looks like this.
I work around it all, stepping over or on it, pretending not to notice.
And then sooner or later it will drive me crazy and
I will feel the need for order again and just call 'er done
Putting it all away - done or not.

Only to start over again in a few weeks for the next season. haha :)

Here are a few things I have been working on...

I finished my fall wreath for my front door

(blackbird wreath)

I am loving the blackbirds this season...I picked them up from Michaels.

Here are a few more pics from my fall decorating...

(fall mums centerpiece)

(fabric pumpkins)

I still have lots to do...
but I guess I am seeing some progress out of my mess. :)

I am working on finishing up something for my dining room table...

not completely sure where this project is going...
I have some ideas in my head.
I have been wanting to use some of the birch bark I collected in Maine.
And I love using God's beautiful work from outdoors inside.
We will have to see how it works out.
I will keep you posted.

I picked these items up at the junk store the other day...
thinking I might use them in my fall decorating or maybe to make a
HAPPY FALL gift for a couple girlfriends! :)

I will be back with more pictures when I finish up.
For now I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful weather :)
And you are having fun preparing for the fall!

Take time to breathe it all in!
and I will too!!
XOXO

A Birthday Bash

On Sunday September 16th my little...ok, not so little...girl turned 17!
I can not believe how time flies.
I have a year and a half left and I will be packing her up for college!! :(
I will be a mess...so we won't even go there.

Anyway she had a very sweet friend, Courtney, who had her birthday on Saturday, so...
they celebrated with the best of friends and had their
BIRTHDAY BASH
together!!

I was thrilled when they decided to celebrate at our home.
The girls decided to start their celebration off with a tailgate
and the Indiana football game.

Aren't they cute?!
Happy 17th Birthday Courtney and Megan!

I put together these little candles for them...

I shared with you in a previous post that I was going to use these...

to make the candles out of.

I decided against the larger ones and stuck with the smaller ones.
With a little scrapbook paper, some mod podge, and some embellishments
they turned out pretty cute. :)

I had previously done some firecrackers...

using the same technique.

After the IU game the girls and a few guys
came back to the house and sat around a fire
out back by the pool!
They made s'mores and had hot coffee.
It was a chilly night.
They had a great time and it was so fun
for me to observe...from a distance, of course! haha :)

On Sunday the rest of the girls went back to Indy and
Courtney and Megan got ready to head to the COLTS game!

It was a simple but sweet weekend!
All these girls are precious! <3

Still working on that fall decor...

Camps Closed For The Season

I am a little behind with this post...
but I think I have finally recovered from my trip to Maine.
Why is it that sometimes it can take more than a week to come back to reality?!
I really can't afford to be gone for that long...haha

It was an eventful labor day weekend
at Foster's Point in Belgrade Lakes, ME.

I mentioned in my previous post that we were
returning to Maine to celebrate my
Uncle Phil's life.

And that is exactly what we did! :)
It was a beautiful day for a memorial service
and lots of great memories of Uncle Phil were shared
by friends and family.
It was a special time for a special man!

these are pictures of pictures...hence the quality is not the best.
I wanted to share them anyway

After the service my Aunt Sue had a luncheon
for all of his friends and family
at the Village Inn in town.
It was the perfect gathering spot.
Seeing as we have spent many an evening
at the Village in for food, drink, family, friends and dancing.

A typical gathering at the Village Inn during the summer months looks something like this...

These pictures are from the Summer of 2007
but every year is the same...the best of times!!

Belgrade Lakes is such a charming little town.
This late in the season it has a very different feel.
The streets were much more quite
and the local store had only a few visitors.

It was kinda sad to me :(
You know that feeling?...
Like it is the end of something...
and yet you know if you are patient and you wait long enough...
it WILL return!
Praise God for that!!

After the luncheon we returned to the Point
and spent some time on the lake
followed by a cookout on the beach...getting rid of all the leftovers
accumulated from the summer.
At this point there is usually more ketchup and mustard
than there are buns, hotdogs or hamburgers.
But we do a good job finishing things off.

The next few days were filled with mostly lots of work
closing down camp.
We did, however, manage to have some fun in between.

And we even managed to get the boat house cleaned out.
It was very scary in there!
Not sure it has ever been cleaned out!!
We worked together and had lots of laughs too.
We found vintage everything...
clocks, curtains and vaccum cleaners,
amongst other things...

The boys pulled out docks and the girls did lots of cleaning up
and packing things away.

Mom and I made this cute little rock garden
from all the rocks the kids painted over the summer!!
I just love it and can't wait to add more to it next summer. :)

As our family and friends started leaving...
a few more each day.
We grew more and more weary.
Mom, Chet and I were physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted.

On Tuesday, as we put the boats away in the barn...
which we pray is still standing next summer. :/
we noticed something had changed.
Chet looked at me and said...
"you know what happened this morning?...
fall arrived!"

He was right...for those who live in Maine
fall was in the air.

And by the time I had packed up my bags
and was ready for my return flight on Wednesday
the point was so quiet it was almost eerie. :(
And actually it felt more like winter was in the wind!

Goodbye for now, Belgrade, my summertime friend.
I shall return...
For now I will carry you in my heart,
until we return in the spring!

Thank you all for letting me share with you my trip to Maine.
Camp is now closed!!

Upon my return from Maine my front porch was not looking so good :(
The summer heat and the lack of my patience
to continue to water had finally taken its toll on my flowers.
As you can see...

I have my work cut out for me for the next few weeks!
Lots of weeding and gardening,
and the usual laundry and cleaning
and I will be working on getting out those fall decorations! :)

Hope to have a little time to create too!

Many Blessings - Sara
